WORLD WATER DAY 2026

The health of local lakes and rivers are in decline, facing contamination from increased pressures and invasive, introduced species. In our rohe (region), we all rely on the lakes and rivers – whether it’s for drinking, swimming or enjoying a day by the water – our community thrives because of these precious natural resources.

This World Water Day 2026 (22 March), we’re asking the question: What would you pay to keep your favourite swimming spots clean and safe?

WAI Wānaka is a community organisation, accelerating local action for fresh water and we need your help. Donate funds to support our mahi or find out how you can get involved below.

$10 Lake Entry

We all pay an entry fee to access the local pools. Would you pay $10 for an all access day pass to two of the most stunning alpine lakes in the world?

What if it meant keeping local lakes clean, safe and swimmable for generations to come?

Because nature lacks a clear price tag, it is often undervalued and neglected. Read more about the value of nature.

Take Action for World Water Day

In honour of World Water Day, we’ve created a guide for taking action.

Learn about the pressures local lakes and rivers are facing and what we can do to protect them.

Together, small steps today can equal big impacts tomorrow.
