Will you support the next generation of freshwater leaders?

Through WAI Wānaka’s 2026 Studentship Programme, your donation directly supports students working at the frontline of freshwater research.
In partnership with the University of Otago and Lincoln University, these students are turning learning into action, contributing real insights that help protect Otago’s lakes and rivers.
To support two summer students for 2026 we need to generate $27,000. Every donation counts towards this target.
Our work is only possible because of our community and generous donors. To keep going, we need your support.
WHY IT MATTERS
Freshwater is central to life in our rohe (region), but it faces increasing pressures.
By supporting a studentship, you are helping to:
- Build the next generation of environmental leaders
- Deliver research that informs real-world freshwater management
- Ensure future generations can enjoy clean, healthy lakes and rivers
Together, we can safeguard the future of freshwater.
THE IMPACT OF YOUR SUPPORT
Our 2026 goal is to raise $27,000 to fund a full summer studentship experience.
Every contribution makes a difference – to the students, to WAI Wānaka, to our community and to the future of local freshwater.
One-off donation
Invest in a student’s future. Join with other donors to create hands-on experiences for students to apply their knowledge and skills to real-world freshwater challenges, supported by WAI Wānaka’s experienced science and environmental team.
Monthly donation
Help build a lasting legacy. Become part of a community of supporters helping to establish an enduring studentship programme, post graduate research opportunities, and the development of the next generation of freshwater scientists and environmental leaders in partnership with South Island Universities.
Together, we can empower students to turn knowledge into action and create lasting benefits for local lakes, rivers and communities.
