WAI Wānaka is investigating land use and market opportunities in the Upper Clutha Catchment. The focus is on positive outcomes for the environment and financial sustainability.

This project is specifically designed for landowners and the community in the Upper Clutha. It identifies enterprises and opportunities suitable to the catchment, based on geography, soils, slope and climate.

Throughout this project we have been working with a mix of farmers, managers and small landholders. Together, we developed criteria for assessing land use options. We gathered information on 20 different enterprises which were suitable to the catchment. Farmers have assessed and scored these options to identify which of them are most suitable for their businesses and for the wider catchment.

We are currently undertaking deep dive studies on 4 of the most popular enterprises. The information on the 20 enterprises and the deep dive studies will be available on the website soon.
